Erica McGuinness with Team Canada
There are few players in today's Canadian women's basketball that inspire more promise of success in the top ranks of the PRO game than Erica McGuinness. A well decorated veteran PRO and current Czech Women's National Team pillar said simply, "Erica is well beyond college basketball, she's a Pro already." while training with her in the summer of 2007. That was before Erica went on to lead her team in scoring at the Bangkok World University Games where she dominated Poland in the quarter final, make history as UBC's All Time leading scorer, and wrap up the season with an MVP winning 22.5ppg performance to lead UBC to its third National Title in her five years with the Thunderbirds.

A 1/2 guard that shows none of the inconsistency of many promising college players, Erica's fundamentally sound, yet often frighteningly methodical game elevates her team beyond their natural potential when it matters most, and crushes the spirit of even the most confident opponents. Her game often seems unnaturally calm in the often emotional fray of college basketball, although the careful observer will note just how hard she works at both ends of the floor and clearly also in practice to develop a shot and a game IQ as keen as hers.

Erica is now a Free Agent and looking for a competitive club seeking to build around a young yet unusually mature backcourt champion.

Erica is a very versatile player who can play both the 1 and 2 guard positions.   A Captain and leading scorer of Team Canada at the 2007 Universiade in Bangkok, Thailand.  A multi-dimensional player with outstanding 3-point range accuracy combined with the ability to attack off the dribble, who is also adept at playing with her back to the basket.  She is a consistent performer who always seems to rise to the occasion when the game is on the line.  Erica demonstrated a competitive spirit, a strong work ethic and a desire to excel throughout her university career.

“Erica has an outstanding skill set combined with an equally outstanding work ethic.  She is strong at both ends of the floor and has been recognized as both a top offensive and defensive player in Canada.  She has strong leadership skills and is extremely team focused.  Erica has be instrumental in the accent of our program to 3 national championships over her career at UBC.”
